Two Years

At Two Years: Just a Few of Our Favorite Things.

The night we met, the excitement of finding each other again; our cautious courting (“Would you like to, maybe, catch a sherut together maybe, if you’re going anyway?”); happy farewells; just showing up for dinner; the fried fish and Nshima; Ben Gurion Avenue; walking the long way up the mountain; bowling at the Haifa mall; the 25 shekel place; Dor Beach; the African Prayer Gathering; one night’s walk from Leon Blum, the patio garden in front of 58 Hillel, gum from David’s shop, the Javaheri’s home, Bet-lech-hem Shlosheim-ve-hamesh, fasting together within a month of the wedding; going to bed at 8:30; Lichi’s Chiang Mai salad, coconut soup, and salmon fingers in tempura; the bus from Tchernikovsky, walking to work, Arabica Café; having friends over for prayers; meeting our Israeli neighbors in our pajamas, visiting Holy Places, going home to Family; the stars at the Chitiya farm; “You are my Sunshine (Mukazi Wanga)”; blue and white mini-buses; having friends in high places in Zambia; practicing Bemba with Mayo; Fyakupesha in Luyansha; Chishimba Falls; one day in Ethiopia; going back to Israel after the Katyushas; having a US passport at the US embassy; a tiny plane in Atlanta; hugs from all our friends; napping on mom and dad’s couch; Christmas in Charleston; a private New Year’s eve; finding jobs; a second wedding reception and a first honeymoon; dinner at mom’s; house shopping; bedtime; puppy shopping; watching Eli grow; learning to drive; cutting grass; being close to family; making plans for when we get “rich”; and mostly growing together; our gentleness with each other, our different perspectives and our easy laughter.

It has been a great first two years. From here, we can only be thankful for the blessings we’ve received, and keep making each other happy.
